2 questions in one easy to open post!

I'm going to get my brand new miniDV camera tomorow. Is it asbsolutly neccesary that I have firewire. All I have is USB.

2nd question
Now no one is going to know this but I must try. There was this awesome school out near Lucas Ranch that was all about digital video and digital effects. Does anyone have any idea about this place. I really want to go there.

I lied, there's another question.
I already have a PC, but I was wondering if I should really get a mac or not. Right now I don't have any $ left (since I just got the new camera) so I would only buy like a $999 iMac.

1.This isn't really a question exactly. Are you asking what type of Firewire Card should you buy if so I have the same question myself. There is a small selection to look at here <A HREF="http://www.dvdirect.com" TARGET=_blank>http://www.dvdirect.com </a> but, you can get them at any electronics or computer store for cheap. It just depends on what software it comes with. If you need a copy of Adobe Premiere with it, it will probably cost you a pretty penny.

3. No. I will probably get flamed for this but, "the PC can edit video just as good as the Mac" and since you already have a pc there is no reason to pay all that extra money. Either way you will need a relatively fast CPU, plenty of RAM, and a HUGE Hard Drive.

Actually, "Is it asbsolutly neccesary that I have firewire?" is a question, dude. And the answer: YES. USB transfers data at 30mbits/sec, and firewire at 400. (USB2 at 480, but, you won't find any USB2 cameras out yet.)

So, yes, you need firewire if you're planning on editing on your computer. Also, a lot of RAM, and a lot of harddrive space (1 second of uncompressed video is 40megs. Or 4. I can't remember. Anyhow, it's a shitload.)
